Shortly after 7 a.m. on Friday, Dec. 27, deputies from the Suffolk County Sheriff’s Department stopped Shoreham resident Donovan Morant, 19, on the Route 25A Bypass in Rocky Point after he was spotted repeatedly crossing the double yellow lines on the roadway.

According to investigators, Morant was stopped for crossing completely over the double yellow lines into the opposite lane of travel toward oncoming traffic.

The deputy, traveling eastbound, was forced to take evasive action to avoid a head-on collision with Morant, officials said.

During the subsequent stop, the Sheriff said that Morant “demonstrated clues while performing standardized field sobriety tests indicating he was impaired.”

Morant was arrested and later failed a breathalyzer test at the Suffolk County Sheriff’s Office Station 17. He was charged with driving while ability impaired by drugs, unlawful possession of marijuana, and vehicle and traffic law violations.

Following his processing, Morant was scheduled to appear in court at a later date to respond to the charges.
